About Chasing Fireflies

Gary Edmonstone, of Chasing Fireflies, is a Portrait and Fine Art Photographer who specialises in portraiture and landscapes. Having started photography late in life after receiving a camera as a gift from his Mother-in- law, Gary taught himself photography through poring over magazines and books and spending many an early morning and late afternoon wandering through the African bush, with camera, film and tripod. From the tiniest cobwebs on a farm fence to animals in the wild, Gary has a love of nature and capturing it`s magic.

After moving to Australia, Gary ventured into Candid People Photography and fell in love with capturing those `in-between` moments in life, those moments when no-one is watching. With his two creative daughters, Kerry and Jamie, Gary has primarily shot Portraits and Fashion, Family Lifestyle, Model Portfolios and Fine Art Nudes. They all have a love for timeless and classic imagery. His style is best described as natural and simple, using natural light and reflections to great effect, striving to create timeless and classic moments for people to enjoy and reminisce over for years to come.

Chasing Fireflies….people have often asked me why Chasing Fireflies for my name? Well, besides being a huge fan of the Firefly TV series, I am a huge fan of the music group, Lifehouse. The lyrics of their one song starts, Easier to be, starts with, ` I`m chasing fireflies, elusive dreams `. Those lyrics are my favourite and really moved something in me. They are so simple and yet so honest and somehow, magical. As kids, many of us were caught up in the magic of fireflies and glow worms. Imaginations were boundless and nothing was impossible. In Chasing Fireflies, I realised that I was doing the exact same thing by chasing the spark, striving to capture a person’s personality and soul in those frozen moments. Photographs are stories to me. I remember each and every person I photograph and for the brief time we are together, we are together and alone in this huge old world. I remember each and every sunrise and sunset, each and every candid and snapshot. They all have their stories and that`s what makes this world worth living in. For me, family, photography, music and art are therapeutic to the soul and are a constant inspiration to the lost and forgotten. *Gary
